For fourteen years, I worked for a HVAC company.
I started working in the parts department when I was sixteen.
I eventually worked up to being a dispatcher, and I was troubleshooting problems before handing out the jobs. When I got married, I moved to the area where my wife grew up. I wanted to find another HVAC company to work for, but there were no local ones. I decided that this could be a perfect opportunity for me. I knew the business inside and out. I just never got a HVAC certification. I called the college that was closest to my home and asked about HVAC certification classes. I also enrolled in some classes for small business owners. While going to school for HVAC certification, my wife and I were taking classes on how to run a business. By the time I graduated from HVAC school, we also had all of our ducks in a row for opening an HVAC company. My wife was going to be the owner, and I was going to manage the business. I guess we never realized we were going to get so busy so quickly. Even before we could hire anyone to work for our company, we were getting phone calls. Within the first month, we had to hire two HVAC technicians, both of which were from the class I had taken. We also had to hire a dispatcher and a parts clerk. I knew it would be a grand idea to open a HVAC company of our own, but I never thought it would progress so quickly.
