The other day, the thermostat finally dipped down below 80, and that was my signal that fall was coming.
I love it when autumn gets here because the cooler weather is such a relief from the oppressive heat that weighs heavy on the southeast from February through November.
Today, the thermostat app on my phone says it is 52 degrees, and I am enjoying it so much. The thermostat on the wall is slightly different and declares that it is 54 degrees. I’m not going to quibble over two degrees. The important thing is that I get to turn off the air conditioning! Every year, most people in our little corner of the world look forward to turning off the a/c and opening up the windows or doors. Today, that is what it looks like at my house. The back door is open – flying critters never you mind – and the dog is happily trotting in and out. The window in the kitchen is open, and most importantly I am running neither the a/c nor the heater! That means a lower utility bill! Even though I live in a small place, my utility bill stays high. I rent this place, so of course the owner doesn’t pay for a top-of-the-line HVAC system. That means the a/c is less efficient than it might be in other places, and that means the a/c bill is higher than ideal. My friend who lives in a house about three times the size of this one has a lower electric bill than I do! She has a mini split a/c unit for the big back room of her house, and I think it is really efficient, as well as whisper quiet.
