Alternative housing plan utilizes alternative HVAC solution

My friends and I did something that is very, very non traditional. There are six of us, three couples, and we just all bought a big house together. It seems like a plan fraught with potential risks and problems. However, we did the right thing and got a lawyer involved so that all of our separate interest covered. Additionally, the house has three floors so, we going to have three separate living spaces within the one house. But, there will be a big communal kitchen with all the bells and whistles. The HVAC renovation was the first thing we tackled. There was an old, antiquated central air system that was in bad shape and wouldn’t suit our purposes anyway. So, we ripped all of that out. The HVAC contractor we met with strongly suggested that we go with ductless heating and cooling options. First, they were much more efficient and the technology is a huge cost saver. We will each have two ductless units on our individual living spaces. This also allows us to have completely independent thermostat settings. Additionally, we will be able to individually track the power use os there will be an equitable utility cost sharing. I didn’t realize how effective the ductless units were. They are actually a modern HVAC unit shrunk down that doesn’t need ducts to deliver HVAC treated air. The condenser unit will rest outside the house and the units are connected by copper tubing. The fact that we don’t use the ducts is a huge cost saver. It is stunning the amount of heat and cold lost due to HVAC treated air being delivered in a house through ducts. I think we have found a very creative way to address a very creative way to own a house.
